The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) successfully held peaceful ward congresses across all 33 local government areas of Oyo State, including Irepo LGA, which comprises ten wards.

The exercise attracted a large turnout of members and was widely praised for its transparency and inclusiveness.

In Irepo, stakeholders and party elders constituted by the state PDP secretariat commended Governor Seyi Makinde and his Deputy, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, for fostering peace, unity, and inclusiveness within the party.

They attributed the peaceful outcome to the Acting Governor’s commitment to internal democracy, noting that at the stakeholders’ meeting held on Monday, 08/09/2025, all elders who were 10 in numbers including the acting Governor as arrowhead, unanimously supported the consensus list of the ward excos except JS Amodu who refused to attend the meeting.

They were: Barrister Bayo Lawal (attendance via virtua), Professor Salihu A. Adelabu (4C, Establishments & Training), Hon. T. T. Olayiwola (Chairman, Irepo LG), Hon. Hassan Ismail (Party Chairman, Irepo LG, Kishi), Hon. Visau Sarivu (Woman Leader, Irepo LG, Ksihi), Hon, J. S. Amoda (Absent)
Alih. Ibrahim Tijani Hon, Razag Adeleke Hon. Saliu Wahab Lucky Hon. Saliu Lukman Asiriabo Hon. Nasiru Ogede Ayinde, Hon. Lawal Mohammed (in attendance as observer from state office).

The PDP stakeholders however assured that the party would continue to work collectively to ensure the party’s dominance in future elections, dismissing rumors of division within the party.

They also debunked claims of a parallel congress, attributing such rumors to political opponents who are becoming jittery over the popularity of the Acting Governor in the local government and the entire Oke-ogun zone.

However, speaking with newsmen after the conduct of the exercise across the state, the Acting Governor, Barr. Lawal expressed satisfaction with the peaceful congresses, praising members for their commitment to building the party.

He urged any dissatisfied members to follow the party’s channels for peaceful resolution, emphasizing the importance of unity and people-centered actions.

The congresses were supervised by various agencies, including INEC, Oyo State Electoral Commission, Nigeria Police Force, and others. With the success of the ward congresses, the PDP is poised for a stronger chance of winning future elections.
