The Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development in Oyo State, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, unveiled an impressive catalogue of achievements and impact stories from the Ministry, describing them as a testament to Governor Seyi Makinde’s visionary leadership and commitment to agricultural transformation.
Addressing journalists, stakeholders, and citizens, the Commissioner attributed the Ministry’s successes to the enabling environment fostered by the Governor’s agricultural reform agenda.
“His Excellency’s unwavering support has turned Oyo State into a beacon of hope and possibility in Nigeria’s agricultural landscape,” he said.
A cornerstone of the Ministry’s achievements lies in veterinary and public health services. A total of 95,948 cattle were vaccinated against Anthrax and Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP), marking 80% progress toward the State’s 120,000-cattle target. Meanwhile, stringent meat inspection protocols led to the inspection of over 30 million animals, ensuring food safety and consumer health across the state.
Barrister Olaleye highlighted the development of key livestock and poultry operation guidelines, including a new Trade Cattle, Sheep, and Goats Law. Rural development also took center stage, with 87.53km of strategic farm access roads completed under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP). Additionally, three rural markets—Oja-Agbe in Iseyin, Aare Alasa in Akanran, and Oja Oba in Igboora—are being upgraded to enhance agro-economic activity.
In a major boost for farm productivity, tractorization subsidy programs benefited 2,827 farmers in 2025 alone, with over 13,000 acres of land ploughed as of June. This builds on the 2024 figure where 1,487 farmers accessed support covering 6,090 acres.
