The Phenomenal Executive Adviser to the Governor of Oyo State on Agribusiness and International Cooperation and Development as well the Director-General of the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency, Dr Debo Akande DBA CMGR FCMI, has described celebrated Nigerian filmmaker and entrepreneur, Kunle Afolayan, as an iconic Afrocentric developer whose vision reflects a deep commitment to African identity, creativity, and economic advancement.
Speaking during a recent engagement, Dr Akande commended Afolayan’s bold investment in culture-based infrastructure through the establishment of the KAP Film Village and Resort, noting that such initiatives go beyond entertainment to become catalysts for tourism, youth empowerment, and economic growth.
He emphasized that their shared passion represents a unity of purpose anchored on developing Africa using homegrown ideas, local content, and indigenous resources. According to him, Afrocentric development remains critical in redefining the continent’s global narrative and unlocking sustainable prosperity.
Dr Akande further noted that Oyo State, through institutions like the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, continues to serve as a hub for innovation, creativity, and investment, creating opportunities for collaborations that connect culture, agribusiness, and tourism.
He described Afolayan as unrepentant in his belief in Africa’s potential, adding that his courage to invest locally sends a powerful message to other Africans in the diaspora and at home.
