– As Ondo Assembly Speaker Empowers Constituents
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo state has reiterated his administration’s commitment to building a globally competitive educational system, calling it one of the key ingredients to tackling poverty and sustaining peace in any society.
The governor gave the reassurance at the 3rd edition of educational empowerment, sponsored by the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, held at the Oba Adesanoye Civic Centre in Ondo city, on Wednesday.
Represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, the governor acknowledged the immense impact of education in the development of a nation and its people.
According to him, “Today’s event is not just another ceremony, it is a bold statement of our collective belief that no investment yields greater dividends than investment in education, being the bedrock of any society.
“It is also an affirmation of our conviction that every child, regardless of their background or circumstance, deserves a fair opportunity to learn, to dream and to achieve their highest potential”
The governor commended the Speaker for the annual scholarship programme, emphasizing the ripple impact of the initiative on his constituents.
“I wish to congratulate the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly for this laudable programme, which has been touching lives of people in his constituency, most especially the vulnerable. I commend your commitment in making the empowerment programme an annual event”
In his address, the Speaker said the programme was conceived out of his desire to use education as a tool to break generational poverty and, give back to the society.
“This initiative is fully in line with ‘OUR EASE’ development agenda of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, which is to create an environment where life is easier, opportunities are more accessible and development is people-oriented” the Speaker said.
The event had in attendance, principal officers of the Ondo State House of Assembly, members of the state executive council, chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representative of the Osemawe of Ondo, teachers and students from across Ondo East/Ondo West federal constituency, among others.
