The Oyo State Government has declared null and void the reported deposition of Dr. Saka Adegbite Balogun as the Balogun of Ogbomoso by the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye.
Reaffirming Dr. Balogun’s status as the legitimate holder of the title, the state government described the monarch’s action as an aberration and a direct violation of extant chieftaincy laws governing traditional institutions in the state.
In an official statement released on Friday, October 23, 2026, by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo, the government clarified that traditional rulers do not possess the statutory authority to depose recognized chieftaincy holders without executive authorization.
Citing the legal framework governing traditional councils in the state, Hon. Ojo emphasized that under CAP 28, Section 26(1) of the Chiefs Law of Oyo State (2000), the exclusive power to appoint, suspend, or depose any Part II Recognized Chieftaincy holder rests solely with the Executive Governor of Oyo State.
”The purported removal of Dr. Saka Balogun, the Balogun of Ogbomoso land, a Part II Chieftaincy holder by HIM, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, the Soun of Ogbomoso land, is an aberration and unknown to the existing law that guides the Traditional Council operations in the State,” the statement read.
The government subsequently urged members of the public to disregard news of the deposition, assuring residents that Dr. Saka Adegbite Balogun remains the duly recognized Balogun of Ogbomoso land.
