Makinde Urges Oyo Residents To Reject Politicians Without Clear Programmes

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has called on residents of the state to be discerning as the 2027 general elections approach, urging them to reject politicians who lack clear, realistic, and people focused programmes for the development of Oyo State.
Governor Makinde made the call on Sunday while speaking with newsmen shortly after the wreath laying ceremony and memorial service held in honour of his late mother, Chief (Mrs.) Abigail Omojolagbe Makinde, at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, Ibadan. Madam Makinde passed away on October 15, 2020.
He advised citizens to critically scrutinise the promises and manifestos presented by political aspirants and their parties as the state enters another election cycle.
Marking six years since his mother’s passing, the governor noted that the annual remembrance serves as an opportunity to reflect on her values, teachings, and the strong bond they shared. He recalled her motherly love, their close relationship, and even their occasional disagreements that always ended in reconciliation.
Delivering the sermon, the Provost of the Cathedral, Very Rev’d Samuel Olawoyin, based his message on Deuteronomy 5:16, and commended Governor Makinde for consistently honouring his parents’ memory despite his demanding schedule. He encouraged the congregation to emulate the governor’s commitment to parental honour.
Rev’d Olawoyin also lauded the governor’s achievements across the state, citing numerous developmental projects in all geopolitical zones and his dedication to workers’ and pensioners’ welfare. He urged the governor to remain focused, continue his good works, and trust in God amid both commendations and criticisms.
Special prayers were offered for the repose of the governor’s late parents, for Governor Makinde and his siblings, his family, and for the peace and progress of Oyo State.
Dignitaries on the governor’s entourage included the Commissioner for Lands, Hon. Akin Funmilayo Williams; Commissioner for Energy, Prof. Dahud Shangodoyin; Governorship Candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi; Chairman, Pilgrims Welfare Board (Christian Wing), Bishop David Moradeyo; Chaplain, Government House, Pastor Layi Adisa; as well as family members and other officials.
