To the Good People of Oyo State and Nigerians at Large,
The past two days have been deeply challenging as we collectively mourn and advocate for the safe return of the students abducted two weeks ago. As your Senior Special Assistant on Students’ Affairs, I have been on the frontlines, standing in solidarity with those demanding justice.
However, in light of recent misinformation circulating regarding my conduct during these protests, I feel compelled to provide a transparent account of my actions to ensure accountability and truth.
My Actions on Monday, June 1st
Throughout Monday, I walked alongside the protesters from Mokola to the Oyo State Government Secretariat. My role was one of mediation and safety:
Ensuring Orderliness: When the protest threatened to turn chaotic, I intervened to protect the public. I actively discouraged the harassment of commuters, including elderly citizens and commercial motorcyclists.
Preventing Disaster: I personally persuaded protesters to allow a truck transporting filled gas cylinders to pass, preventing a potential tragedy.
Restoring Traffic: It was through my direct engagement and negotiation that the roads were reopened by 2:00 PM.
Supporting the Cause: I stood with the students as a peer and advocate, even providing water to keep the protesters hydrated and calm.
My Actions on Tuesday, June 2nd
Following the Governor’s engagement with the leadership of NANS, NUT, and NLC, I joined the NANS delegation on a journey to Ogbomoso to visit the affected families. While refueling in an entourage of hundreds of students:
De-escalating Conflict: We were confronted by individuals who demanded we join a blockade. When an argument ensued and escalated into physical aggression from some protesters against student leaders, I acted as a peacemaker.
Protecting Participants: I worked to separate the parties to prevent injuries and, in one instance, successfully recovered a seized camera for a participant, further demonstrating my commitment to neutrality and the protection of all citizens.
Addressing False Allegations
It has come to my attention that malicious reports are circulating, alleging that I brandished a firearm and ordered violence.
I categorically deny these baseless claims.
I have never held a firearm in my life, nor have I ever condoned or ordered violence against any individual. It is profoundly disappointing that those who claim to advocate for justice are resorting to the very tactics of oppression—incitement, misinformation, and threats—that they ostensibly stand against.
My phone number has been maliciously circulated to encourage harassment, which is a direct attack on my person and my office. To those who have chosen to listen to my side of the story, I thank you. To those seeking to tarnish my image, please be reminded that the burden of proof rests with the accuser. I remain committed to the safe return of our students and to the peaceful progress of our state.
Thank you,
Hon. Victor Dideoluwa Olojede
Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Oyo State on Students’ Affairs
