The Oyo State Chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has strongly condemned the recent abduction of pupils, students, and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, describing the attack as a tragic assault on humanity, education, and peaceful coexistence.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and jointly signed by the President of the chapter, Okechukwu Nwabunike, and Executive Secretary, Promise Aja, the socio-cultural body expressed deep sorrow over the horrifying incident and sympathized with the affected families, school communities, and residents of Oyo State.
The organization described the attack on the Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities as a heartbreaking and barbaric act carried out against innocent children and educators pursuing knowledge and national development.
“We stand in solidarity with the families of the victims and the people of Oyo State at this difficult time,” the statement noted, stressing that the entire Ohanaeze structure remains deeply disturbed by the criminal attack.
Ohanaeze also condemned the reported killing of Mr. Michael Oyedokun, a mathematics teacher whose death was confirmed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde following the circulation of a disturbing video online.
The pan Igbo group described the murder as the height of cruelty and a grim reflection of the ruthless nature of the abductors. Hon. Nwabunike stated that the mass kidnapping represents a direct attack on peace, education, and societal stability, while calling on Nigerians to seek divine intervention and pray for the safe return of those still in captivity.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the slain teacher, as well as the relatives of all victims affected by the tragedy. He also sympathized with the families of security personnel, including soldiers, members of the Amotekun Corps, and local vigilantes, who reportedly lost their lives during rescue operations.
Throwing its weight behind Governor Makinde’s administration, the Ohanaeze Oyo chapter stated that the governor has continued to demonstrate commitment toward protecting lives and maintaining security across the state.

According to the organization, Oyo State had not previously witnessed such a devastating incident, adding that urgent and practical steps must now be taken to prevent future occurrences. The body advocated stronger community-based security systems and reinforced school safety measures to safeguard students and teachers.
The group further appealed to residents of the affected communities and the wider public to cooperate fully with security agencies by providing credible intelligence capable of aiding rescue operations.
It cautioned citizens against spreading sensitive information or engaging in actions capable of undermining ongoing operations, emphasizing that vigilance, intelligence sharing, and public restraint remain critical tools in the fight against insecurity.
Ohanaeze also called on Igbo communities across the South-West region to support their host communities during the difficult period through prayers, solidarity, and humanitarian assistance for affected families.
The organization urged the police, military, and other security agencies to deploy every available resource toward rescuing the abductees and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Concluding the statement, Hon. Nwabunike stressed that insecurity can only be defeated through national unity and collective resolve.

“We continue to pray for the safe return of these abductees and for the exposure and defeat of those behind this evil act,” the statement concluded.
