Former presidential candidate, Gbenga Hashim, has paid a solemn visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Rwanda, in honour of the victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.

In a post on his social media page, Hashim reflected on the tragic events of the 100 day massacre, which claimed the lives of over one million people.

The memorial, which also serves as the final resting place for approximately 250,000 victims, stands as a symbol of remembrance and national healing.

He described Rwanda’s history as both painful and instructive, noting that the genocide remains a stark reminder of the dangers of division, while also highlighting the country’s remarkable journey toward reconciliation and resilience.

“We remember, we reflect, and we commit to a better future,” he wrote.

The Kigali Genocide Memorial continues to attract global leaders, scholars, and visitors, serving as a place of reflection and a call to prevent future atrocities.
