The Oyo State Deputy Governor, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, has dismissed rumors of an alleged kidnapping incident at the College of Nursing campus in Kishi, describing the report as false and misleading.
During a visit to the town on Sunday, accompanied by members of the Kishi Progressive Union and representatives from Fulani communities, the Deputy Governor explained that the rumor stemmed from an unfounded alarm raised by some individuals, which created unnecessary fear among students, lecturers, and residents.
He assured parents, students, and the general public that no kidnapping incident occurred, stressing that the government remains fully committed to maintaining security across the state.
The Deputy Governor, who equally met with various security agencies and community leaders, maintained that the safety of students and staff in all educational institutions remains a top priority for the Oyo State government.
He added that security agencies have already taken steps to investigate the source of the rumor and to strengthen surveillance and monitoring across the campus to prevent future false alarms.
He, however, warned those spreading malicious rumors to desist immediately, noting that spreading false information online is a serious cybercrime punishable under the law.
