A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP Dr Gbenga Olawepo Hashim has expressed hope that the current litigation filed by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike led faction of the party will soon be resolved amicably.

Dr Gbenga Hashim disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on the sideline of his visit for a religious engagement in Lafia Nasarawa state.

He explained that discussions were on with principal actors in the matter from both sides for an out of court settlement to avoid a protracted legal battle that may end up at the supreme court which he believes will not augur well for the party.

According to Dr Hashim, as the general election draws nearer, it is expedient for the PDP to resolve all its internal conflicts to ensure progress of the party and for the interest and protection of Nigeria’s democracy.

Dr Hashim who is a founding member of the PDP, observed that Nigeria’s democracy can only be meaningful with robust and competitive opposition political parties, noting that Nigeria cannot be a one party state.

He pointed out that the recent gale of defections of some PDP Governors to the ruling APC was due to poor performance in their various states and fear of anti graft agencies.

Dr Hashim stated that the 2027 general election will be a case of electorates against political parties stressing that citizens are now more aware of their rights and the power they possess during elections.
