Nigeria Abolishes Open Cattle Grazing – Idi Muktar Maiha

The Federal Government of Nigeria has abolished the open grazing of cattle in the country.

Speaking in Yola Adamawa State during the 1st National Council on Livestock Development the Minister Mallam Idi Muktar Maiha said open grazing has caused unnecessary hiccups in the past years creating crisis and loss of needless lives across the country.

He said its an offence to be caught grazing openly as all cattle rearers are encouraged to embarked upon ranching which is safer and would make the cattle fatter for business.

The Honorable Minister said since the Presidential innovation of revamping Livestock started the ministry is determined to project the ministry to be the next biggest revenue earner after oil and gas and so far the ministry is projected to earn 74. Billion Dollars in the next 5 years ane so far more than 14 billion Dollars have been earned while projecting the livestock development under his ministry.

Idi Mukhtar Maiha was earlier received by the Governor of Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umar Fintiri who was represented by the deputy Professor Farauta George.

The Governor described Adamawa State as the home of livestock and commended the minister for staging the 1st National Council on Livestock Development in the state.

The Senate Committee chairman on Livestock senator Musa Mustapha while speaking said soon Livestock would overtake oil in revenue earning and the senate is ready to encourage a robust business minded budget for the ministry.

The House of Representatives chair on Livestock Hon Tasir Olawale Raji pointed out that the house committee was happy with the performances of the ministry so far in rising to the occasion on ‘livestock development.

Hon Raji commended the ministry for abolishing open grazing in the country saying it was needles confusion when farmers and cattle rearers while frexing unnecessarily muscles over something which should have been abolished a long time ago.

The Federal Permanent in charge of the Livestock ministry Dr. Mrs Chinyere Ijeoma Akujobi thanked all investors in the livestock industry for ranching especially Dan Lawan Adamawa, Alh. Sadik Daware.

The minister also commended Adamawa Lpres for massively achieving milestone in the past 12 years.
