Ajayi David Wins 2nd Adelami Tennis Grand Slam

– As Ondo Deputy Gov Donates Solar Kits to Achiever’s University

A 300-level student of Achiever’s University, Owo in Ondo state, Ajayi David, has won the second edition of the Adelami Tennis Grand Slam.

The annual tournament, which is being sponsored by the deputy governor of Ondo state, Dr Olayide Adelami. is the brainchild of Achiever’s University, aimed at discovering new talents in lawn tennis.

At the grand finale, held at the lawn tennis court of the University on Tuesday, Ajayi David clinched victory in straight sets, dominating from the start and ended up with a 6–3 win over Daisi Peter, to the delight of spectators.

In other categories, the mixed doubles crown went to the pair of Olayemi Olaleye and Edwin Godwin, while Toluwani Falade emerged winner in the female singles event.

While presenting medals and trophies to the winners, Dr Adelami charged them to get more involved in sporting activities to complement their academic pursuits.

According to him, “It is important for students to get involved in sports while studying in school as this will help improve their physical and mental health, enhance social skills, and also boost their academic performances.

He praised the university management, led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, for its tireless efforts in achieving excellence in university education in Nigeria, and for judicious deployment of resources.

The deputy governor donated solar kits to the Lady Babade Adelami Hall of Residence, promising to continue to promote tournaments of this nature among young people.

Appreciating the kind gesture, President of the Lady Babade Adelami Hall of Residence, Akanni Itunu, thanked the deputy governor for his support for the university and passion for youth development across the country.

“Your dedication to youth development, education and community advancement continue to inspire us. You are not just a leader, you are a shinning example of excellence and purpose-driven service” Akanni eulogized the deputy governor.

In his opening remarks, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Prof. Bode Ayorinde urged the students to learn from the deputy governor, who is a sports enthusiast and compassionate political leader.

He thanked Dr Adelami for his long-standing support and partnership with the university.
