The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, joined a host of dignitaries on Friday to pay final respects to the late Alhaji Yekini Adeojo, a foremost Ibadan politician and founding member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), whose remains were laid to rest in Ibadan.
Speaking during the solemn rites, Lawal described Adeojo’s death as the close of a significant chapter in the political history of Oyo State, offering heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and praying for strength and comfort during their time of grief.
Alhaji Adeojo, who was the PDP’s governorship candidate in the 1999 elections, died after a brief illness at his Iyaganku residence. His Janazah (Islamic funeral prayer) was led by the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Alhaji AbdulGaniy Agbotomokekere, at the late politician’s home.
Imam Agbotomokekere described Adeojo as a devout Muslim and a man of integrity, using the occasion to remind all present of life’s transience and the virtue of righteousness.
The funeral drew an array of notable personalities, including religious leaders, Islamic scholars, and political figures such as Senator Sharafadeen Alli (Oyo South) and the Sultan’s representative, Alhaji Razaq Oladejo.
Adeojo was buried in line with Islamic traditions, drawing the curtain on a legacy that shaped the state’s political landscape for decades.
