Oyo State government has commiserated with traders that lost their properties as an early morning fire outbreak destroyed shops and goods worth millions of naira at the popular Aleshinloye Market in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The fire incident which broke out at the midnight left the trails of losses, sobbing and grief as several traders lost multiple shops to the inferno.
A woman was said to have lost 13 shops in the conflagration.
However, an eyewitness, confirmed that the swift response of men of the State Fire Services supported by the teams from nearby SUMAL and Sweetco companies curtailed the spread of the inferno.
While visiting the scene of the incident with some top government officials to commiserate with the affected traders and see the extent of the damage done by the blaze on Wednesday, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Abdul. Raheem Adebayo Lawal, thanked God that lives were not lost but was sad that properties were lost to the preventable inferno.
Barr. Lawal subsequently admonished traders on the need to always take measures to prevent fire outbreak and later directed the Market Executives to come up with enumeration of shops damaged by fire.
He equally directed the local government chairman in the area to ensure that adequate security is put in place at the market and to prepare a comprehensive report on the cause of the fire.
The Deputy Governor assured that Oyo State Government would do the needful in terms of immediate support through the agency of SEMA and NEMA for the victims.
“On behalf of His Excellency, Seyi Makinde, I have come here today to commiserate with you over the sad incidence. But we thank God that no life was lost.
“This is a big and popular market. It is so painful. But be rest assured that government will no the needful in terms of immediate support. It is our prayer that such Weill not happen again,” he said.
