The PDP Gubernatorial candidate in Oyo state has said that he will turn Shooting Stars Football Club over to interested stakeholders who have the means and the interest of oyo people at heart.
In a statement released from his campaign organization and signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade, Engr Makinde said that government officials in collusion with others are misappropriating the meagre resources released to the club.
Such is the parlous state of Shooting Stars club that many of the players have abandoned the club for greener pastures.
Makinde said that in negotiating for the progress of the club, he will ensure that government’s involvement is reduced to the barest minimum and not in the day-to-day administration as that will be left in the hands of investors.
He placed the misfortune of the club squarely on the shoulders of the present government saying that if it cannot provide the basic needs of the people, it can at least make them happy through sports.
The insensitivity of government to recreation as a tool to sound education, the statement said, is also why the Ajimobi Administration has abandoned the old tradition of Inter-House Sports in secondary schools which has turned impressionable students away from sports as an integral part of education to social vices
