Member of the red chamber in the National Assembly, Senator Mohammed Kola Balogun, has said that the current political and socioeconomic situations in the country are very disturbing and government must begin to make concerted efforts to ameliorate the pains and grievances of Nigerians.
Senator Balogun made this disclosure at a media parley on Friday while hosting South West Group of Online Publishers to a dinner in Ibadan.
He explained that the worrisome situation which has increased the agitation for secession by various ethic groups in the country was a pointer to the fact that Nigeria has no choice than to restructure.
He added that a situation where there’s lack of confidence and trust from the people towards the government as a result of injustice and lack of equity will always lead to agitations which if not properly addressed may snowball into something else.
He noted that the only solution to the seemingly endless challenges bedeviling Nigeria is to restructure based on recommendations contained in the 2014 National Conference stressing that it would be a quick way out considering the rigors and time required for constitution amendment.
The eloquent lawmaker explained further that the genuineness of purpose, commitment to service and the political will of governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state were reasons behind his numerous success via his well informed policies and programs which were hitherto, perceived as near impossible as a result of how the last administration mismanaged Oyo state resources.
Senator Balogun charged members of SWEGOP to use their various online medium to sensitize people on voters registration stressing that it is the first and primary duty of every citizen to choose who their leaders will be.
He explained that information highway in the 21st century has gone past the conventional means of disseminating information especially news reportage adding that seeking to partner SWEGOP because of its role and impact in disseminating information which is not limited to local audience aims to foster a more robust media relationship.
He explained that part of the humongous challenge bedeviling Nigeria was corruption stressing that it was almost impossible to believe that Nigeria is still among top poorest countries in the world despite its enormous human and natural resources noting that if the issue of corruption is reduced to a barest minimum, Nigeria’s problem would have been solved by half.
The Senator, who is currently representing Oyo South senatorial district at the senate became famous for defeating ex Oyo state governor, late Senator Abiola Ajimobi at the 2019 general election while the former governor was still in office.
Senator Balogun who was former Oyo state commissioner for commerce, explained that he will continue to use his office to better and improve the quality of life of his people specifically because of the peculiarity surrounding his electoral victory.
