The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ibadan the Oyo state capital, on Tuesday dismissed the petition filed by the immediate past governor of Oyo state Abiola Ajimobi, challenging the declaration and return of Senator Kola Balogun as the winner of the 2019 Oyo south senatorial district.

The tribunal held that the petition filed by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 23rd general elections lacks merit and the petitioner was unable to convince the tribunal that the election was rigged. The chairman of the tribunal Justice Anthony Akpovi therefore, uphold the election of Senator Muhammad Kola Balogun as the winner of the Oyo South Senatorial district 2019 national assembly election. This makes it the second time within the year 2019 that Sen. Abiola Ajimobi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) would be humbled by Senator Balogun, first at the election poll and second at the election petition tribunal.

Meanwhile, the senator described the victory as God’s own project that can not be tampered with by anyone.

He said, “I thank Almighty God, i thank the unflinching support of my party PDP, i thank all my people from Oyo south senatorial district, and i thank the very good people of Oyo state for their couragious stand against oppression and their support for my mandate, this means that there is hope for the common man, it is victory for democracy, the election was revolutionary, people voted against recklessness, abuse of power and government running away from the norm of good governance, If Ajimobi wants to continue to wrestle against the Lord, let him continue.”
