The Oyo State House of Assembly member representing Ibadan South West I at the 9th Assembly, Hon. Yusuf Adebisi Oladeni who is also the Deputy Chief Whip of the house has stated that the house of Assembly has identified Agbowo shopping complex as a potential IGR booster for the state government and it’s already working towards helping the state government achieve this plan in line with the state government’s investments promotion agenda.
The lawmaker made this statement while speaking with Sunrise News correspondent today in his office at the state house of assembly complex, secretariat, Ibadan.
Recall that Hon. B.G. Adebayo representing Ibadan North II in the legislative house moved a motion that was duly seconded by Hon. Yusuf Adebisi penultimate week during one of its plenaries, on a bill seeking for evaluation and renovation of Agbowo shopping complex Ibadan towards boosting the internally generated revenue (IGR) for the state, the lawmaker has assured that the committee in charge is already working on it accordingly.
The shopping complex which was built for commercial purpose in 1984 by Colonel Popoola, the then military governor of Oyo state was gathered to have about 300 shop space with large parking lot with high potential to become a source of employment as well as a huge source of internal revenue booster for the state.
Hon. Yusuf said “if you are familiar with the history of Agbowo shopping complex, you will realize that it was that same complex that housed one of the finest movie cinema in Oyo state called “Baba sala cinema” it was a very popular place we all knew while growing up, a place that created lots of avenue for fun seekers to hangout back then but unfortunately out of mismanagement, everything has fizzled out, even the entire complex is in a very bad condition as we speak.” “I mean, a complex that has about 300 shops at such beautiful location should be a goldmine for the state government, that is why the house in its bid to help the state government identify key areas of infrastructural development for investment purpose is looking in that direction, we as a house will ensure whatever needs to be done to restore the glory of that Agbowo complex is done, the 9th assembly is not just about talking and debating motions in the house, as you can see, we are here for serious business that will restore Oyo back to her pacesetter’s status.”
Attempts to reach Hon. Adebayo, mover of the motion was futile as he was not in his office as at the time of gathering this report.
Hon. Adebisi has always expressed his keen desire and passion to impact positively on the people of Oyo state through effective and efficient legislations however assured that governor Seyi Makinde led government and the 9th assembly will not leave any stone unturned in the bid to promote real investments and create job opportunities in Oyo state.
