Ramadan Iftar: Oyo Deputy Governor Host Members Of The NUJ Warns Against Making Iftar A Political Event.

Engr Raufu Olaniyan the Deputy Governor of Oyo State has advised against people who are fond of hosting what he termed as “Political Iftar” noting that such acts negates the essence of the religious exercise. He stated this while hosting members of the Nigerian Union Of Journalist (NUJ) led by Ademola Babalola Chairman Oyo State Chapter at his Onireke residence.

The number two man in the state stressed that Iftar is a meal taken by Muslims at sundown to break the daily fast during Ramadan an act to thank Allah who is our sustenance, but lately it’s been done with political colorations. He remarked that Iftar is a religious activity and should not be made political.

Olaniyan also expressed his appreciation to NUJ for the support they are given to the present administration, and hoped they will continue in that path. He said the administration is not averse to criticism, but it must be constructive. Olaniyan asserted that journalist as the fourth estate of the realm are watch dogs of the society, making their role vital, hence should always carry out their duties with the fear of God.

The Deputy Governor who retired as a Permanent Secretary in the Oyo State Civil Service thanked the NUJ members for coming to his house for the Iftar, he said “I s always consider members of the NUJ as my friends, and hoped that the cordial relationship between myself and the Union will continue to improve”.

He commended the effort of members of the Union towards the betterment of the society, saying that their role is crucial towards nation building.

Earlier in his remark, the Chairman of Oyo NUJ, Ademola Babalola expressed gratitude to the deputy governor for his support and kindness towards journalists in the state, saying that Olaniyan remained one of the pillars of the union. He prayed for Allah’s blessings and protection for the Deputy Governor and members of his household.
