The Oyo state government through the Oyo state Rural Water Supply And Sanitation Agency (RUWASAN) has declared that all efforts are been made to ensure the availability of drinkable water supply to rural communities across the state. The newly appointed executive chairman of the agency by governor Seyi Makinde, Engr. Najeem Omirinde, made this disclosure while addressing top members of the agency during an assessment tour of some facilities of the agency on Tuesday at the Oyo state secretariat, Ibadan upon assumption of office.
Engr Omirinde who was a former lawmaker at the Oyo state house of assembly, stated that governor Makinde has assured that rural communities, major markets, as well as public schools will all be provided with supply of portable water in order to maintain hygienic environment in the state. The chairman added that his observation of the available facilities indicated that most of the equipments are moribund noting that even if the agency wished to embark on reviving the moribund equipments it would only amount to waste of time and scarce resources. He however assured that the state government through the agency would explore every possibility of an effective partnership with the aim of providing equipments and facilities that will meet up with the current demand for drinkable water in rural communities and major markets across the state. He said “You see the drilling ridge and the compressor, shortly we will have other ones so that we can provide portable drinking water for the people of Oyo state. “You see 70% of the diseases in our society are water born that is why the present government under the leadership of governor Makinde is working assiduously to ensure that if portable drinking water is provided for the people, the money spent on hospital and medical bills would be saved and used for other productive things so, we are bringing in new equipment to achieve our goal. “Generally, we have the issue of shortage of water supply everywhere because this challenge is not peculiar to Oyo state but in our own resolve as a state to end the scarcity of water supply, we are focusing on the rural areas, major markets, and public schools to have water supply to maintain a healthy environment.”
