Oyo Assembly May Hold Emergency Plenary Wednesday 29 Sept To Consider List Of Makinde’s Commissioner-Nominees

Following the submission of the list containing names of all ten remaining Commissioner-Nominees to the Oyo State House of Assembly by Governor Seyi Makinde, there is a strong indication the state lawmakers may reconvene to hold an emergency plenary to consider the governor’s request next week. Sunrisebulletin.com reports exclusively.

Recall that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state on Sept. 22 forwarded ten names of Commissioner-nominees to the House for necessary legislative screening and approval.

Few hours after submission of the list of Makinde’s Commissioner-nominees to the House was widely reported, the House of Assembly through the office of the Speaker also confirmed receipt of the list via a statement issued by the Speaker’s Special Assistant on Media, Alhaji Oyetunji Oyekunle.

The ten names contained in the new Commissioner-nominees list Sunrisebulletin learnt comprises five returning former Commissioners and five additional new names.

The five former Commissioners who are returning include Seun Fakorede, Adeniyi Adebisi, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, Wasiu Olatunbosun, and Abdulrahman.

The five new Commissioner-nominees are Abiodun Oni, Misbau Babatunde, Segun Olayiwola, Bode Ladipo, and Kafilat Omolabake Olayiwola.

However, Sunrisebulletin learnt that the House of Assembly is currently on a recess which is expected to terminate by October 12, 2021.

It is doubtful if the lawmakers would cut short their recess time to reconvene to enable them hold an emergency plenary in order to consider the request before the House from the Governor which has resulted into increased anticipation among political watchers as well as politicians in the state.

A credible source in the Office of the Speaker said “it is most likely the lawmakers reconvene on Wednesday Sept. 29 to hold an emergency plenary in order to consider the Governor’s request and fix a date for screening of the Commissioner-nominees.”

“Next week Wednesday is most likely date for the lawmakers to reconvene in but it remains a tentative date.” The source said.
