Makinde Transforming Ibadan into Cosmopolitan City With New Ultra Modern Bus Terminals – Hon Dare Adeleke
By Henry Odeh
Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo state has been commended for the new initiative of his government to build four ultra modern bus terminals in the state capital, Ibadan.
Since the state’s Commissioner for Public Works, Infrastructure and Transportation, Prof. Raphael Afonja, revealed news of terminals, residents, stakeholders and service users have continued to pour encomiums on the governor and his great foresight.
The commissioner who said the terminals are aimed at bringing sanity to public transportation in the state added that the new buses would also be procured in their numbers to sanitize transportation in Ibadan and the state.
In keeping to the promise, the state government has awarded the contract for the construction of the terminals after due process had been followed.
Commenting on the new bus terminals, Chairman of the Oyo Pacesetter’s Transport Company, Dare Adeleke applauded the governor and called the initiative a landmark project: “It is a most welcome and exciting development, as it would benefit the people of Ibadan and boost the services of the Pacesetter’s transport Company.
Governor Makinde has proved again, that beyond reasonable doubt, he is moving Ibadan towards a true cosmopolitan city, in line with global best practices, as the new terminals will easily compete with any other modern terminal you can find all over the world because even beyond the grand aesthetics, they would also feature restaurants, shops, Automated Teller Machine (ATM) galleries and Cafés, among others.” He said.
The new terminals will be located at Iwo Road, Challenge, New Ife Road and Ojoor, Ibadan.
However, the All People’s Congress (APC) continues to discredit the governor’s worthy initiative as they have done since the inception of his government.
Not sooner than Makinde was sworn in did the Abiola Ajimobi’s led opposition swing into action resisting and running down the government.
“The APC has not taken its massive defeat in the last general election lightly, but has been undignified in their approach to maintaining the position of opposition party. No matter how laudable the project initiated and executed by Makinde, the APC lies in wait like an aging wounded lion, moaning and grumbling,”
said a PDP member.
“The Ajimobi people are really pained they lost the election and Seyi Makinde exposed their cluelessness, ineptitude and massive looting of Oyo State. What they made the people believe was rocket science, Seyi Makinde came to execute with ease.
“Is it payment of teachers salaries, payment of bursaries, road construction, cleaning of the environment which was left almost to decay in their tenure, or the ease of transportation introduced by Makinde, etc? The people now know that their government was a joke which set about impoverishing the people rather than empowering them.
“We thank God for Governor Seyi Makinde and we are all very excited that the bus terminals will further help towards returning Ibadan back to its old glory, our city, which Ajimobi ran aground with his reckless looting ” He concluded.
