LG POLL: All Political Parties In Oyo State Except One Participating In Council Elections

The Chairman of Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Isiaka Olagunju (SAN) has disclosed that 17 out 18 political parties in the state are participating in the local government election holding on Saturday, May 22, 2021.
Aare Olagunju disclosed this during a press briefing held at the Commission’s headquarters, Agodi, Ibadan, on Friday.
The OYSIEC chairman, while assuring the electorates of their safety throughout the election, said no electorate will be harassed, intimidated or embarrassed by any security operatives in the course of performing his or her civil responsibility.
“I am urging you all to go out and cast your votes for your preferred candidates without any fear of harassment, embarrassment or intimidated by any security operatives.
“We have visited all the necessary stakeholders and with the support we got from the security operatives who are on ground to monitor the whole exercises towards ensuring that it’s free, fair and credible.
“As I speak to you, all sensitive insensitive materials have been deployed to various locations across the State. We have deployed insensitive materials since Tuesday, while sensitive ones are on their way to their different locations, the materials have to leave Ibadan today so they can be in their various expected locations as earlier as possible, to ensure that the elections exercises start as earlier as possible and with the help of the Police and other security operatives that escorted those materials and our staff. I believe all is now set for free, fair and credible elections.
“We are not in support of any political parties, we are going to make sure that each and every vote counts, we are to see that your vote counts; the votes of every citizen in Oyo State will surely count. We are going to provide very credible, free and fair elections.
“By this time of tomorrow election results will have been coming in batches, as we have nothing to hide, you can go to our online platforms, OYSIECTV for the update as regards the elections, we deployed this to ensure transparent in the conduct of the election. I promised we will not disappoint you.” Olagunju said.
Speaking on the number of participating political parties, OYSIEC Chairman, said 17 political parties, out of 18 registered political parties in the state will be participating in the local governments elections that would produce elected chairmen and councilors across all 33 local government areas of the state.
