LG Election: Makinde Committed To Providing Level Playing Ground For All Political Parties – SA OYSIEC, Tallest
By Henry Odeh
The Special Assistant to governor Seyi Makinde on Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) Mr Tallest Innocent, has said that Oyo state governor is committed to fulfilment of his campaign promises.
The governor’s aide in a press chat with sunrisebulletin.com on Thursday in Ibadan noted that governor Seyi Makinde has no more point to make with the magnitude of success recorded in less than two years in office as the governor of Oyo state.
Mr Innocent explained that governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment has been further strengthened by the recent development in the state house of assembly.
Sunrisebulletin.com recalls that governor Seyi Makinde had sent an executive letter to the state legislature on 14th December, 2020, seeking tenure extension for caretaker chairmen of all the 33 and 35 local governments and local council development areas in the state to allow OYSIEC adequate preparation for the LG election slated for 2021.
According to Makinde in the letter sent to the state assembly, tenure extension of the council chairmen will prevent vacuum in local government administration I’m the state.
Mr Innocent however noted that it is no longer going to be business as usual where an incumbent government is perceived as imposing council chairmen on the people of the state maintaining that local government election will hold within the quarter of year 2021.
“Governor Seyi Makinde in my opinion has clearly justified the mandate given to him by the good people of the state following series of landmark achievements across all sectors of the economy and most importantly entrenchment of good governance and deepening of democracy in the state.
“All political parties in the state need not be told that by reducing the tenure extension of the council chairmen from six to three months in the last legislative sitting of the state house of assembly, governor Makinde has shown the political will to conduct local government election within the first two years in government for the very first time since 1999.
“As I speak with you, machineries are already in motion to ensure a hitch free local government election in year 2021 because the standard for accountability, transparency, and good governance has been set by the Seyi Makinde led government and no subsequent administration can afford to fall short of it.
“We urge all political parties in the state to start putting their houses in order ahead of the local government election slated for next year because the state government is set to strengthen local government administration in the state with a view to improving the quality of life of the people in the state.” He stated.
