The Oyo state House of Assembly has appealed to the Oyo state Government to urgently put mesures in place for early detection of Lassa fever and treatment of same in case of any outbreak.
The House made the appeal while deliberating on a matter of urgent public importance during its plenary on the need to prevent the outbreak of the disease in the state brought before it by Hon Ridwan Saminu ( Saki East/ Atisbo) on Tuesday.
It was noted that with the current increase in the new confirmed cases of Lassa fever and death occasioned by the disease in Nigeria, there is the need for the Oyo state Ministry of Health, Ministry of Culture and Tourism and other stakeholders to intensify campaign on the risk of getting infected.
The Speaker, Oyo state House of Assembly, Rt. While highlighting the nineteen states with confirmed cases of Lassafever, the House warned that the
proximity of Ondo,Osun and Ogun states to Oyo state should be a wake up call for all stakeholders on health in the state to prepare for any eventuality.
The motion further charged the Ministry of Local Government to put measures in place for Environmental Health Departments in Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas to ensure fumigation of drainages and gutters in their domains.
