JUST IN: You Can Not Sue Makinde, Oyo Assembly PDP Party Whip, AKT Cautions ENL Consortium

The Oyo state house of assembly during its last Thursday’s plenary has cautioned ENL Consortium from playing to the gallery instead of facing the job it was employed to execute within a stipulated period that is fast running out adding that the present administration is keen on transparency and accountability in all its dealings and would not tolerate any act capable of frustrating the state government efforts in its drive to deliver on its promise of good governance.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) party whip at the Oyo state house Hon. Olajide Akintunde while addressing Sunrise Bulletin correspondent in his office at the house of assembly complex yesterday over the threat made against the executive governor of Oyo state, Engr. Seyi Makinde by the contractor handling the Ibadan circular road project, ENL Consortium, stated that the contractor is either acting ignorantly or just trying to play to the gallery in anticipation of a likely aftermath of failing to deliver the project as agreed within the stipulated period.

AKT as he is popularly known wondered how an employee of the state government under a contractual agreement could exhibit such amount of audacity to its employer while the contract is still valid and project still ongoing.

He said “is ENL Consortium by its action and threat to sue the executive governor which is not possible, saying its employer which is the Oyo state government does not have the right and power to query or express its displeasure against any unsatisfactory development in the course of the project execution? You can not even sue the governor! He is the executive governor of Oyo state and can not be sued so why would you threaten him? He has neither done anything wrong nor said anything wrong if anything it is the contractor that is giving the state government serious reason for concerns, the move by ENL Consortium has only successfully raised more curiosity and suspicion and the Oyo state house of assembly is fully ready to dig out everything about the contract. In due time both the Ministry of public works and Transport and management of ENL Consortium will be appearing before this hallow chamber to answer questions in that regard.”

Hon. Akintunde stated that the contract duration is three years between 2017 and 2020, “yet we are already heading towards the last month of 2019 and contract performance is still below 10%” he queried. He added that there is just twelve months left and in the governor’s wisdom after his on the spot assessments and evaluation of the project noted that the contract performance is below expectations leading to his expression of dissatisfaction noting that “what anyone would expect from the contractor is remorse and renewed commitment to deliver on the job not a threat” he said.

Hon. Akintunde however assured that the legislative house will continue to engage all stakeholders handling government projects in a bid to ensure real value for tax payers money adding that it is no more business as usual and any organization intending to bid for the state government projects must show adequate capacity to deliver because PDP government is all about transparency, accountability and quality service delivery that will impact on the people directly and positively.
