As part of commitment to community service in Lagelu Local Government area in improve on environmental degradation caused by rain and road usage by commuters, Oyo state Assembly lawmaker, Honourable Akintunde Olajide on Saturday led members of Lagelu state constituency on rehabilitation of bad roads in the area.

The lawmaker made this known exclusively to sunrisebulletin while speaking on sundry issues relating to his role as a lawmaker at the state legislative chamber on Sunday July 11 shortly after filling up portholes in selected roads in Lagelu including a deplorable Eleshingodogbo road.

He explained that the move to embark on the phase II of what he called ‘Operation Zero Porthole’ In Lagelu local government was motivated by the state government commitment to rehabilitate damaged roads across the state.

He added that no Government has singlehandedly been able to accomplish 100 percent of whatever it set out to achieve in any part of the world stressing that it is the complimentary efforts and support by all critical stakeholders and concerned citizens that in most cases help government achieve what it set out to accomplish.

‘AKT’ as he is fondly called explained that the move was the second phase of such community service initiated by his office in collaboration with leaders and party faithfuls in the local government to bring about the needed physical change in the environment in Lagelu as a show of compliments to what the state government is currently doing.

The lawmaker who doubles as both the PDP Whip of the 9th Assembly and Chairman, House Committee on Commerce and Cooperatives, stated further, that Oyo state governor, Engr Seyi Makinde has turned the state into the largest construction site in Nigeria with different forms of ongoing infrastructural projects scattered across the state

“I want to tell you with all sense of responsibility as a true son of Ibadan, Oyo state, not necessarily as a lawmaker, that Governor Seyi Makinde is dazzling everybody with all the top notch infrastructural projects currently ongoing across the state.

“You see what the governor is doing is what many governors are afraid to do because these are long term projects that will give whichever government that comes after him by 2027 a soft landing.

“The state government started this initiative of operation zero porthole and we saw it as a very commendable one so we adapted it to our community service in our own small way at the local government level so that we can achieve more together.

“You see my brother, once our roads are in good shape, local commerce will boom, transport sector in the state will begin to yield better and improved revenue, road accidents will reduce, and everybody will be happy.

“These things are not rocket science, Governor Makinde’s approach to governance has instilled the sense of inclusive participation in everyone that’s why you see our people trooping out in their numbers to join what we are doing. This is truly democracy at work in Oyo state.

“Aside from lawmaking and oversight duties, I feel personally that as long as we remain committed to the welfare of our people which is partly community services like this, then we as representatives of our constituents would be impacting on our people more directly,” Hon. Akintunde said.

He however, assured that as the Peoples Democratic Party Whip of the 26 lawmakers on the platform of the party, he will continue to rally support of his colleagues for the success of the present administration under the leadership of Governor Makinde.
