JUST IN: Oyo Assembly Approves Makinde’s Request To Access N1.5bn FGUBEC/OYOSUBEB Intervention Funds

The Executive Governor of Oyo state, Engr Seyi Makinde’s request to the state house of assembly to access the sum N1.5 billion naira federal government Universal Basic Education Funds and Oyo State Universal Basic Education Funds (FG UBEC/OYOSUBEB).
This is coming few weeks after the governor visited some of the model schools constructed by the last administration that are already in serious dilapidation during one of his unscheduled inspection visit.
The house of assembly made this disclosure on Monday 30th November, during its plenary sitting to consider letters from the executives which also included request for consideration and confirmation of commissioner nominee as read by the Speaker of the house, Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin.
The lawmakers in their various submissions agreed to the move to improve on education and educational facilities across the state which is geared towards enhancing qualitative teaching and learning in the state.
according to the letter, the funds will enable the state government to embark on aggressive construction of classrooms and provisions of school furniture with standard facilities to enhance improved teaching and learning activities in the state.
The letter reads in part: “I have the pleasure to extend my warmest greetings to the honourable Speaker and by extension honourable members of the Oyo state house of assembly in continuation of this administration’s efforts to embark on aggressive construction of classrooms and provisions of school furniture with standard facilities to enhance improved teaching and learning activities in the state.
“The executive council has approved the assessing of 2020 FG UBEC/OYOSUBEB Intervention Funds in the sum of N1, 510 664 674.26 only.”
The governor stated according to the letter that the funds is coming at a concessionary rate of 12 percent per annum for a tenure period of 15 months.
The house however, approved the request by the governor and urged the state government to ensure judicious utilization of the in order to achieve even development across all the zones in the state.
