JUST IN: Hon. Akintunde Sympathizes With Victims Of Akesan Market Fire Inferno, Blames Incident On Insensitivity Of Last Administration
By Henry Odeh The lawmaker representing Lagelu state constituency at the Oyo state house of assembly, Hon. Olajide Akintunde who also doubles as the PDP caucus Whip and Chairman House Committee on Commerce and Cooperatives has expressed his heartfelt sympathy with victims of the Akesan fire inferno which claimed three lives and destruction of properties. AKT as he is popularly called said some situations are better accepted as an act of fate adding that it was so tragic and incomprehensible how at the twilight of the new year, the state was witnessing such an unfortunate incident. Hon. Akintunde while on a phone conversation with Sunrise Bulletin correspondent when contacted on Sunday with regards to the fire inferno lamented the poor state of the firefighting facilities in the state adding that if the last administration had been sensitive enough throughout its eight years of administration by equipping the agency with necessary facilities to work with Mankind’s government wouldn’t be thrown into such a dark moment. He called for a more concerted efforts by all stakeholders to ensure that such unfortunate incident does not happen again by ensuring that the agency is well equipped ahead of the future. AKT expressed his appreciation for the timely visit of governor Mankind’s team to the scene of the incident led by the honorable commissioner for public works Prof Rapael Afonja and further expressed optimism in the capacity of the state government to move against such future occurrence. He said “As the chairman of the house committee on commerce and cooperatives and as a business person myself I can say with all emphasis that the incident was not only tragic to Oyo state but also has negative impact on the economy of the state considering the volume of trade in that market and it is only sad to resort to accepting such unfortunate occurrence as an act of fate because no one can question God. “I just wish to sincerely sympathize with all victims of the inferno and pray that such will never happen again. “I believe this was as a result of the lackadaisical attitude of the last administration towards protection of human sanctity as reflected in its complete negligence of the firefighting agency for good eight years. “Now, the present administration is compelled to correct the insensitivity of the last administration by dealing with the unfortunate reality. “Our hope lies in the ability and capabilities of the governor who has already sent his team led by the honorable commissioner for public works to the scene of the tragic incident. The lawmaker however assured that the state house of assembly will continue to work more closely with the executive to ensure that there are no loopholes in the delivery of good governance to the people of the state.
