Iwo Road Fracas: Oyo Police Command Apprehends, Parades 3 Suspects In Connection With Rahman’s Murder

The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended no free than three persons in connection with the June 16 fracas at Iwo Road area of Ibadan, leading to the death of 36 year old Rahman Azeez.
The death of Rahman Azeez popularly called ‘Rahmon Jago’ by his friends spurred immediate outrage by the people leading to the call on the state government and the State Police Command to fish out whoever is connected with Rahman’s murder.
The Spokesman of Oyo State Police Command, DSP Adewale Osifeso, who made this known on Monday 22nd of June, in a Press Release obtained by Sunrisebulletin described the three paraded suspects as ‘alleged principal initiators of the unfortunate outbreak of violence that led to the death of Rahman’.
Sunrisebulletin gathered that a verbal altercation ensued between Iwo-Road Park Managers and Complex traders of the same area on Wednesday, June 16.
The exchange of verbal altercation between the two groups led to the shocking death of Rahman Azeez, aged 36.
The Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, who visited the scene of the tragic event on Thursday 17th of June assured the people of justice for the family of the deceased.
The Oyo State Police Command, as part of its investigations has however, said it’s efforts has paid off as three key suspects connected to the death of Rahman have been apprehended and paraded stressing that residents should avoid taking laws into their hand through any form of jungle justice.
“Three persons have been arrested in connection with the Wednesday 16th June, 2021 fracas between Iwo-Road Park Managers/ Complex traders of the same area.
“They include Omoniyi Elemo a.k.a Ibukun ‘m’ aged 45yrs, Muritala Sulaimon a.k.a Muri ‘m’ aged 42yrs and Kalid Musa ‘m’ aged 38yrs.
“The Trio were alleged to be principal initiators of the unfortunate outbreak of violence that led to the death of one Rahman Azeez ‘m’ aged 36yrs.
“Consequent upon this, diligent investigation carried out revealed that the brawl began as a result of an argument that ensued from the shop owners and Park Managers over obstruction created into and outside the plaza by one of the shop owners.
“This resulted in an argument which degenerated into exchange of fists and in solidarity both members of the Car Park Task Force and traders of the complex mobilized themselves in their numbers hence the source of the uproar,” the Police Press Release reads.
Meanwhile, according to the Press Release, the Oyo State Police Command also said that it has made some arrests of criminal elements at Sunbare area of old Ibadan road in Eruwa Ibarapa.
The State Police Command however, reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and properties of all resident in Oyo state.
“In continuity of the crime fighting crusade of the Oyo State Police Command, on Sunday 20th June, 2021, several gunshots were reportedly fired in a bush at Sunbare Area, along old Ibadan road Eruwa, causing fear and panic in the hearts of residence.
“Upon receipt of the information, Police Operatives attached to Eruwa Divisional Police Headquarters in concerted effort with stakeholders in the area, gathered momentum and stormed the reported scene.
“Upon arrival at the scene, the trio of Opeyemi Ajibodu ‘m’ aged 30yrs, Segun Dade ‘m’ 29yrs and Dare Adenle ‘m’ 25yrs, were arrested and found in possession of the following exhibits; (1) Three Dane guns, (2) Two Daggers, (3) One Cutlass, (4) Two head-lamp, (5) Charms, (6) Three I.D cards and One Access ATM card belonging to Ajibodun Opeyemi, (7) One Lighter, (8) Ten expended cartridges and (9) Two live cartridges.
“Conduction of an on-the-spot assessment at day break led to the discovery that the gunshots were from an attack launched against a group of Fulani headers, which resulted in the killing of six (6) cows and wounding of thirteen (13) others.
“Upon interrogation, fact gathered revealed that the attack was perpetrated to wade off the headers from grazing in the forests in Eruwa environs.
“Effort to apprehend other accessories to the crime is at top gear.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ngozi Onadeko fdc, wishes to assure the general public about the Command’s unflinching commitment toward ensuring that the lot of justice is preserved as every hand involved in the perpetration of this dastardly act is brought to book.
“While registering the above assertion, the Commissioner of Police wishes to encourage the good people of Oyo State to be law abiding and desist from embracing self help in obtaining justice,” the police statement concludes.
