The governor of Oyo state, Engr Seyi Makinde, has urged Igbo investors worldwide to replicate their huge investments across the globe including Lagos, Aba, and Onitcha in Oyo state. sunrisebulletin.com reports
Speaking on behalf of the the governor, the Special Assistant to the governor of Oyo state on Community Relations, Honourable Olufemi Josiah, reiterated the governor’s commitment to continuous harmony between the state government and other ethnic groups particularly the Ndigbos in Oyo state.
He made this disclosure on Saturday while speaking at High Chief Ndubuisi Banjamin OKORIE daughter’s traditional wedding engagement which held at Item, Bende local government area of Abia state.
Honourable Josiah noted that governor Makinde’s commitment to the welfare of all residents in the state regardless of ethnic background necessitated creation of Office of the Special Assistant to the governor on Community Relations in order to entrench a sense of belonging and all inclusiveness in the minds of all Oyo state residents.
He explained that his presence at the event at the instance of the executive governor was an attestation of governor Seyi Makinde’s towards interethnic harmony in the state.
Hon Josiah, who was a former lawmaker at the Oyo state assembly and an ex local government chairman, emphasised the need for the Igbo community worldwide to leverage on the peaceful coexistence between Oyo state government and other ethnicities in the state particularly the Igbo extraction, to replicate their investments in Lagos, Onitcha, and Aba in Oyo state.
He stressed that Oyo state government’s huge investment in its security architecture and infrastructural development were born out of the need to create a peaceful and enabling environment as well as provide economic drivers such as key infrastructures for businesses and industries to thrive.
He stated that it is a known fact across Nigeria and Africa that the Igbos are great industrialists with huge investments spread across the globe including Nigeria, adding that Oyo state is open for industrialization with replication of such investments in the state.
Hon Josiah lauded the Ohaneze Ndigbo, Oyo state chapter led by its president, High Chief Ndubuisi Benjamin OKORIE, for displaying uncommon leadership style that has projected the Ohaneze Ndigbo as a united and formidable ethnic group in Oyo state while expressing gratitude to the Igbo community in Oyo state for showing commendable level of faith and trust in governor Seyi Makinde and his government.
He particularly lauded the President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, High Chief Okorie, for his might and leadership acumen to mobilize Igbo community in Oyo state in support of the Seyi Makinde led administration adding that Chief Okorie also played a pivotal role in enthroning the present government among other traditional leaders in the state.
The governor’s aid reaffirmed governor Makinde’s unflinching commitment towards industrializing Oyo state and making the state economy one of the fastest growing economies in Africa.
He stressed the need for Igbo investors and industrialists to quickly key into governor Makinde’s laudable economic agenda before foreign investors start to get ahead in term of advantage adding that such move by the Igbo investors will greatly promote local content and ensure that Nigeria’s money remains in Nigeria.
Earlier, Hon Josiah had gone into a closed door meeting with leaders of Ohaneze Ndigbo including Chief Alloy Obi, High Chief Okorie, and other notable leaders of the body.
Details of the meeting however remains unknown but it may not be unconnected with unifying the Igbo leaders in Oyo state towards a deepened harmonious relationship.
Honourable Josiah who was full of excitement expressed gratitude to governor Makinde for availing him the opportunity to serve in his administration adding that his trip to the south east as representative of the governor has further enriched his appreciation of Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage describing the Igbo culture as very rich and worthy of emulation.
The President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Oyo state chapter, High Chief Okorie, in his brief remark, expressed gratitude to governor Seyi Makinde for honouring his invitation by sending a representative, adding that Igbo industrialists worldwide are ready and will replicate their investments in other parts of the country and the rest of the world in Oyo state in due time stressing that overtures have already been and the governor has continued to show the expected leadership and political will capable of building confidence and trust in the mind of any big investor.
