The lawmaker representing Egbeda state constituency at the Oyo state house of assembly Hon. Olasunkanmi Babalola has made a passionate appeal to the Oyo state government under governor Seyi Makinde to as a matter of urgency come to the rescue of the people of Egbeda local government area with the the view of tackling the negative environmental and ecological impact of the lake located at Adegbayi and its adjoining areas strabagwhich has over the years posed as serious threat to the lives and properties of the residents in the area.
Hon. Sunkanmi who is also the deputy majority leader of the 9th assembly while addressing Sunrise Bulletin correspondent in his office yesterday in Ibadan stated that the strabag lake is an abandoned quarry site of over 30 years on a latitude of 07° 22′ 49″ north and longitude of 03° 58′ 57″ east of the local government.
He added that the lake was an aftermath of exploration and excessive digging into the ground from the massive granite deposits on the site adding that the strabag lake has posed a serious threat to residents within and around the community due to water overflow especially during heavy downpour noting that the site has turned to hideouts for criminal elements leading to the outcry by the community and its neighboring environment.
Hon Sunkanmi therefore called on the Oyo state government through the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources as well as the Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project to come to the aid of the people in the area by putting all abandoned strabag quarries into productive use through conversion into reacreational centres such as relaxation resorts and tourist centres.
