#EndSARS: Oyo South Senator, Kola Balogun Throws Weight Behind Protest, Calls For Devolution Of Power
By Henry Odeh
The Oyo state senator representing Oyo south senatorial district, Senator Kola Balogun, has thrown his weight behind the the #EndSARS protest currently going on across the Nigeria, Sunrisebulletin.com reports.
In a post on his personal Facebook page on Monday, the lawmaker expressed solidarity with the protesters and called for devolution of power from the centre to the federating units.
He said: “I support the #EndSARS movement and I moved for the Vigilante bill which is in essence devolution of power from the central police force to the states and regions.
“Since crime is local, having local security apparatus would both check crimes and excesses of security officers because the community knows the security agents too.
“Last week Wednesday, Senator Oluremi Tinibu moved motion to end police brutality and we spoke in support of it. The fact is that anyone; whether young or old could be victim of SARS brutality or extrajudicial killings. So, end must come to such from our security agents.
“Going forward, we need more than Police Reform, we need to restructure the Nigeria Federation. True Federalism is the long term solution to the present National agony.
“Anything that constitutes agony or brutality to Nigeria must end and we must remain focused in having a better society. The struggle must remain non-partisan and the youths must ensure hoodlums are not allowed to infiltrate them.
“Please stay safe and may God keep you and your family safe and well.
