The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Gudu, Abuja, on Thursday, ordered the Inspector-General of Police to pay N50m damages to the widow of the late Chief M. K. O. Abiola, Prof Zainab Abiola, for violating her fundamental rights by arresting and parading her while wearing only a nightgown. A popular hotel in Ibadan, BON Hotel Nest, has lost its operations manager, Mr. Tunde Solomon. Solomon was said to have died of a heart attack after the shock from the explosion that occurred very near the BON Hotel, his place of work. It will be recalled that an explosion occurred in Ibadan on Tuesday, January 16, at Dejo Oyelese Street, which claimed more than three lives, injuring over 77 people, while about 20 houses collapsed. A Nigerian woman, Abigail Marshall Katung, has been elected as the Lord Mayor of Leeds in the United Kingdom. The councillor from the Labour and Co-operative Party grew up in Nigeria before moving to the UK to pursue her studies at Leeds University.
