NEC Issues Deadline For State Police Position Papers, Discusses Key National Issues As Oyo Acting Governor Briefs Press.
The National Economic Council (NEC) has advised states that have not yet submitted their position papers on the establishment of state police to do so by next Monday. This decision was disclosed by the Acting Governor of Oyo State, Barrister Abdul Raheem Adebayo Lawal, during a briefing with State House correspondents on the outcomes of today’s council meeting.
Barr. Lawal disclosed that the council resolved that should the four states which are yet to submit their reports or to fail to do so by Monday,the 9th of September.,whatever decision reached on the matter would be binding on them.
The meeting, presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, saw the attendance of nearly all thirty-six state governors. Also present were prominent figures such as Mr. Bill Gates, Chairman of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group.
Mr. Gates addressed the council, highlighting ongoing efforts to eradicate poliomyelitis and strategies to ensure food security in Nigeria. Additionally, the Coordinating Minister of Health, Professor Ali Pate, briefed the council on the ministry’s commitment to improving the nation’s health.
In other decisions, the council approved the establishment of a committee tasked with addressing flood control in states prone to flooding. This decision followed updates provided by the Governors of Bauchi and Nasarawa States on the current flood situation. Oyo State has been named a member of this newly formed committee.
