As the political atmosphere across Oyo South Senatorial District intensifies ahead of the 2027 general elections, what was initially projected by political strategists as a predictable contest is rapidly transforming into a fierce battle of track records. The entrance of Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide Odidiomo, the candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), into the senatorial race has fundamentally disrupted early political calculations.
For Remi Oseni, the senatorial bid, once assumed to be a comfortable electoral campaign has evolved into a high stakes struggle to retain political relevance against an increasingly formidable challenger.
The shifting tide across the nine local government areas of Oyo South is largely driven by a comparative scrutiny of legislative stewardship.
Odidiomo’s visible track record in Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West federal constituency, marked by extensive infrastructural interventions, digital hub facilities, emergency relief support, and grassroots empowerment continues to reverberate strongly across the district.
In contrast, political observers and community stakeholders within Ido/Ibarapa-East have raised critical questions regarding the tangible development delivered during Oseni’s tenure as the incumbent representative of the federal constituency.
This performance gap has placed the APC candidate under intense public pressure, prompting late hour expenditure drives and frantic political alignments aimed at salvaging his campaign prospects.
Recognizing the threat posed by Odidiomo’s structured grassroots penetration across both the Ibadan urban core and the Ibarapa agrarian belt, the Oseni campaign has resorted to aggressive outreach tactics. However, these spending sprees have done little to kill skepticism, as electorate scrutiny increasingly shifts toward verifiable legislative achievements rather than high octane political spending.
Recent public controversies, including sharp community pushbacks over disputed project claims have further compounded the APC candidate’s challenges, fueling perceptions of a campaign struggling to maintain its footing in the face of genuine electoral pressure.
With the political momentum steadily favoring a candidate backed by visible performance and unified party alignment, the contest for Oyo South has effectively stripped away long held assumptions of electoral dominance. Odidiomo’s disciplined, policy driven approach across the constituency continues to attract key stakeholders, grassroots canvassers, and community leaders who view his senatorial bid as a credible alternative.
