The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr Abdul Raheem Adebayo Lawal, described the death of the former Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Niyi Otunla, as a significant loss to the country. Speaking at the funeral service in Irawo, Atisbo Local Government Area, he emphasized that Mr. Otunla had made remarkable contributions to Oyo State during his tenure as the state accountant general. His exceptional performance at the state level paved the way for his appointment as the Accountant General of the Federation.
Barr Lawal noted that the late Niyi Otunla consistently demonstrated a high level of professional competence throughout his career. He remarked that Otunla would be greatly missed not only by Oyo State but by the entire nation.
Revd Kehinde Babarinde, former conference president of the Lagos Central Baptist Conference, also spoke at the funeral. He praised Mr. Otunla as a complete gentleman who promoted unity among various groups during his lifetime. The clergyman noted that Otunla’s memory would endure.
The funeral service was attended by numerous dignitaries, including the wife of the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Ajibola Lawal, former Deputy Governors Iyiola Oladokun and Adeyemo Alake, former Chief Judge of the state Mukhtar Abimbola, former Secretary to the State Government Dele Adigun, Head of Service Olubunmi Oni, and many others.
