Osun Digital Media Week 2025 A Convergence For Advancing Democratic Governance Through Digital Solutions – Ajelogbon

We’re the future of journalism – Osun Online Publishers Chairman, Ajelogbon

_…Highlights AI, Digital Innovation towards Electoral Integrity_

The 2025 Osun Digital Media Week entered its second day on Thursday, 4th December, 2025, with a renewed call for the deployment of technology and artificial intelligence to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral processes and information ecosystem.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman, Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA), Mr. Mukhtar Ajelogbon, welcomed participants to the three-day programme, describing it as a convergence of innovators, media practitioners, policy influencers and thought leaders committed to advancing democratic governance through digital solutions.

Ajelogbon said this year’s theme, “Harnessing Technology and Artificial Intelligence Towards Credible Elections and Information Dissemination in Nigeria,” reflects the urgent need to embrace digital tools that promote transparency, truth, and accountability in public communication, especially as Nigeria deepens its democratic journey.

He noted that OOPA was honoured to host the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, as Guest Speaker, describing him as a seasoned expert whose insights will be pivotal in examining how emerging technologies can enhance election credibility, improve media professionalism, and reshape public engagement.

The OOPA Chairman outlined the activities lined up for the three-day programme, which includes Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), a free medical outreach, a public lecture and a refresher course for association members.

He said the medical outreach courtesy of Shifauk Group of Hospitals, underscores the group’s commitment to societal welfare beyond digital engagements, while the capacity-building session is aimed at enhancing members’ skills in digital journalism and AI-driven reporting.

Highlighting OOPA’s achievements under his leadership in less than two years, Ajelogbon listed eight milestones, including periodic capacity-building trainings of members, acquisition of OOPA official secretariat, opening of an association bank account, improved member welfare through advertising partnerships, launch of the association’s official website, appointment of a matron, expansion of membership from 16 to 21, and strengthened media partnerships within and outside Osun State.

According to him, these achievements demonstrate OOPA’s strategic positioning as a fully digitalised organisation and a major stakeholder in the future of journalism.

“OOPA is 100% digital. This simply means we are the future of journalism, and the future is now,” he stated.

Ajelogbon expressed appreciation to dignitaries present, including the representative of the state government, Hon. Eniola Odeniyi, Special Adviser to the governor on Public Enlightenment, and commended the patron of the association, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Hameed Oyelude Makama, the Olowu of Kuta, and the Matron, Mrs. Funmi Abokede who is the General Manager of Osun CSDA, for their unwavering support.

He also acknowledged Dr. Rasak Saliu Orisunlagba of Shifauk Group of Hospitals for sponsoring the free medical checkup. He extended the appreciation to those who supported the programme financially such as; Engr Olalekan Badmus Managing Director of the Nigerian Port Authority, and Kunle Rasheed Adegoke K-Rad (SAN) Osun 2026 APC governorship aspirant and other individuals and organisations that have supported the event in various ways.

The OOPA Chairman commended the Planning Committee, led by Mr. Adesoji Omosebi, alongside the entire members and executive team, for the successful organisation of the programme.

He further extended appreciation to his wife for her support, describing her as an integral pillar in his leadership journey.

Ajelogbon expressed optimism that the gathering will be illuminating, productive, and transformative, while urging stakeholders to continue driving conversations that shape journalism, technology, and democratic participation.

The 2025 Osun Digital Media Week continues with plenary sessions, training, and other activities scheduled for Day 3.
