The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency Barrister Bayo Lawal, Today, on behalf of the executive governor of Oyo State His Excellency Engr Seyi Makinde 24th November 2025, led government officials, community leaders and stakeholders to commission the newly constructed Omituntun Ultra-Modern Market, Omi-Adio, an initiative executed by the Ido Local Government.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor described the commissioning as “an epoch-making occasion” and a significant milestone in the state’s drive toward economic expansion, organized commerce and sustainable development.
He noted that the market stands as “a symbol of progress,” emphasizing that the project reflects the administration’s steadfast commitment to improving trade, boosting local economies and enhancing the overall quality of life of residents in line with Governor Seyi Makinde’s Sustainable Development Agenda.
Lawal recalled that the project received the approval of Governor Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, FNSE, D.Sc., GSSRS, on June 3, 2024, and commended the governor for consistently fulfilling his promises to the people since the inception of the Omituntun 1.0 Accelerated Development Agenda in 2019.
He highlighted similar landmark projects under the Makinde administration, including the Sasa Ultra-Modern Market in Akinyele and the Akesan Ultra-Modern Market in Oyo Alaafin, describing them as “achievements to be proud of.”
The Deputy Governor underscored the transformative impact of the Omi-Adio market, noting that it will help shift trading activities from roadside petty trading to safer, designated commercial areas—thereby reducing accidents and promoting orderly economic activity.
While appreciating the people of Omi-Adio and the Ido Local Government community for their cooperation throughout the construction period, he urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the facility, reminding them that several millions of naira had been committed to the project.
Declaring the market open, Lawal said, “It is on this note that I declare Omituntun Ultra-Modern Market, Omi-Adio open to the glory of God and the advancement of trade in Oyo State. May it bring prosperity, unity and lasting development to our people.”
He thanked all attendees for their support and participation in what he described as another step toward a more prosperous Oyo State.
