Stop Acting Like A Sheriff Over Us – Mogaji Adanla Warns MURIC Over Olubadan Coronation Claims

Engr. Abdul- Jelil Mogaji Adanla, the Turaki Adinni of Oyo State, has warned the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) under the leadership of Professor Isihaq Akintola to stop spreading rumors and making inciteful statements that could undermine religious harmony and peace in the state.

MURIC, had on Saturday, claimed that the Oba Olakunlehin coronation ceremony prevented Muslims from attending Jumu’ah prayers due to Governor Seyi Makinde’s late arrival.

But reacting to the statement on Sunday, Adanla, who was the Vice chairman Security at the last Olubadan coronation, denied the allegations, stating that Makinde did not delay Muslims from observing Jumu’ah prayers.

He emphasized that the governor promotes religious harmony and tolerance, citing the recognition of Islamic New Year as a public holiday in Oyo State.

Adanla attributed the slight delay on the coronation day of Oba Olakunlehin to the traditional rites preceding the handing over of staff of office, a responsibility vested in the Governor.

According to him, the delay was attributed to the traditional rites process, not the Governor.

He stated that Governor Makinde was ready to arrive earlier but was advised to wait until the traditional protocols were completed, thereby preventing him from proceeding to an empty podium.

He wondered why MURIC would fan the flames of discord with baseless allegations, questioning their motives and accusing them of promoting a hidden agenda to tarnish the administration’s image.

The Turaki Adinni advised MURIC to focus on constructive criticism and appreciate the administration’s efforts in promoting religious harmony, particularly Governor Makinde’s fair treatment of Muslims.

Adanla also pointed out that a nearby mosque was within walking distance of the coronation venue, making it possible for Muslims to attend prayers.

In his words, “Stop acting like a Sheriff over us. You’re promoting a hidden agenda. As a professor, you should know how to do your findings before jumping to conclusions. It’s a sin.

“It was the committee that delayed the Governor’s arrival, ensuring traditional protocols were observed before the handing over of staff of office, and preventing him from proceeding to an empty podium. Governor Seyi Makinde himself did not arrive late.”
