In its drive to empower its youths to be gainfully engaged and globally competitive, the government of Ondo state has kick-started the training of 500 young people in different areas of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

The participants, who were drawn from the three senatorial districts of the state, converged in Akure on Wednesday for the flag-off ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Governor Lucky Aiyedatwa disclosed that the training is in collaboration with the Nigerian-German Centre for Migration and Development (GIZ-ZME), thanking them for their support.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, said his “administration is committed to revolutionary technological advancement and industrialisation, which is an integral part of ‘OUR EASE’ policy thrust in the state”

He said the state government has been partnering various government and private organizations to equip the young people in the state with needed skills to be self-reliant and contribute to the economy.

“Today’s event underscores the unwavering commitment of our administration to the empowerment of our young people, who remain the backbone of our society and the drivers of sustainable economic development” He said.

The governor charged the participants to take advantage of the opportunity to acquire knowledge that will transform their lives.

In his remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to Ondo state governor on ICT, who currently heads the State Information Technology Agency (SITA), Tomide Akinribido, revealed that the training will last for a period of four weeks.

He thanked the governor for his youth-centric policies, programmes and projects as encapsulated in the ‘OUR EASE’ development agenda.

On his part, Representative of GIZ, Ayomikun Olugbode, said the organisation has been engaging in a fruitful colaboration with the state government for over five years. He thanked the government for sustaining the relationship.
