The Oyo state government has on Friday last week commenced tour of farm settlements at Akufo in Ido local government and Eruwa under Ibarapa local government in order to assess and determine land allocation, utilization, and optimization that will enable the government develop an implementation plan for the proposed farm estates.
The honorable commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon. Ojemuyiwa Jacob Ojekunle and the Executive Adviser to Oyo state governor on agribusiness, Dr Debo Akande in company of other top officials from the ministry of agriculture were on the tour of the zone.
Part of the settlements visited was the greenhouse at Eruwa where crops such as tomatoes, pepper, onions are planted for optimal yields of produce.
Hon Ojekunle while addressing the farmers at Eruwa stated that Oyo state government plans to invest heavily in agriculture sector in order ensure food security in the state adding that the ministry is already in partnering with several organizations and professional bodies to created the needed skills in terms of capacity building and assess to funding so that farmers can return to farm.
He added that farmers in the state have to key into the state government plan to industrialize the state through agribusiness noting that the potentials in agribusiness are limitless if farmers reciprocate the gesture of the state government.
Hon. Ojekunle further added that the era of farmers on paper is long gone which was what necessitated the inspection tour by the team to the zone for on the spot assessments and to interact directly with the real farmers.
He aka assured that the present administration is dedicated and committed to support farmers in the state in order to achieve its economic plan.
