7.6Billion Agric Loan: Oyo Assembly Not A Rubber Stamp – House C’mittee Chairman On Commerce And Coop., AKT
By Henry Odeh
Following the mixed reactions that trailed the approval of 7.6Billion Agric loan from the central bank of Nigeria (CBN) by the Oyo state house of assembly, the house committee chairman on Commerce and cooperatives Honorable Akintunde Olajide popularly called AKT representing Lagelu state constituency, has debunked such insinuations from some quartres stating that the 9th assembly is well known for its robust engagement and approach to debating bills and motions before they are passed.
AKT as he is fondly called, made this reaction while having a media chat with Sunrise Bulletin correspondent in his office yesterday at the parliamentary building, secretariat Ibadan.
The lawmaker noted with shock that the mixed reaction trailing the approval of the loan by the house is absolutely uncalled for adding that such negative comments and reactions are products of mischievous elements who at the detriment of the collective good of Oyo state would play politics with everything and anything.
He stated that the fund was already approved by the 8th assembly and that the present state government under the leadership of governor Seyi Makinde only sought for accessibility of the fund for another course which it deemed key to the actualization of the governor’s economic recovery plan through agricultural revolution. He noted that Oyo state largely depends on commerce for its IGR the decision of the executive to access the said fund is a good step in the right direction.
The lawmaker added that when the expansion of farm settlements into farm settlement estates is implemented, most of the social facilities in the city that attracts rural dwellers to the city will be provided and rural urban migration will reduce while commercial activities in the state will increase as a result of agribusiness explosion, and the impact would be positively felt by all regardless of political party affiliations stressing that no governor in the history of Oyo state has operated an all inclusive and open government like the present administration and therefore, adviced destractors and mischief makers to desist from playing politics with the collective destiny of the people of Oyo state.
