It is with great honour that we announce that Engr. Dr. Idowu Olugbenga Adewumi, MNSE, of the School of Engineering, Federal College of Agriculture, Ibadan, has been named one of the Top Five Innovation Engineers in Nigeria at the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) 2025 Annual Conference & AGM held in Ibadan.
After a series of rigorous examinations, technical evaluations, and multi-stage innovation interviews, the grand finale was concluded at the NSE National Headquarters, Abuja, on Thursday, 20th November 2025. Engr. Dr. Adewumi distinguished himself by emerging FIRST among the Top 5 Best Innovation Engineers nationwide.
His award-winning innovation — the Scalable AI-Powered Post-Harvest Loss Prediction and Control System — is a groundbreaking engineering solution designed to boost agricultural productivity, reduce waste, and strengthen food security across Nigeria and Africa. The project has been widely praised for its originality, technical depth, and real-world impact.
During a media briefing, Engr. Dr. Adewumi explained the motivation and significance of the innovation:
“Annually, Nigeria experiences a loss of around 30–50% of cassava-derived food items due to poor post-harvest management, unsuitable drying conditions, and microbial contamination. These losses amount to billions of naira, leading to food insecurity and reduced income for rural farmers. Our AI-driven system integrates Machine Learning, IoT sensing, and predictive analytics to minimize spoilage across cassava products such as Lafun and Fufu. Through real-time monitoring and proactive prediction, this solution transforms cassava processing centers from reactive to proactive loss management.”
The official award presentation was conducted by Engr. Margret Aina Oguntala, FNSE, President and Chairman of Council, alongside the NSE Board, at the:
Venue: International Conference Center, University of Ibadan
Date: Wednesday, 3rd December 2025
Time: 5:00 PM Prompt
The conference was declared open by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. Also present were the Hon. Minister of State for Works, Barr. Bello Caronyo (FNSE); the First Lady of Oyo State, Engr. Tamunominini Olufunke Makinde, FNSE, representing the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Oluwaseyi Makinde, FNSE; the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, FNSE; as well as dignitaries from across the world, industry leaders, academia, colleagues, partners, friends, and well-wishers.
Congratulations once again to Engr. Dr. Idowu Olugbenga Adewumi — a shining beacon of innovation and excellence in Nigerian engineering!
