A young girl tragically ended her life on Sunday evening, shortly after her father forced her to marry his old friend in Borno State.

Apparently, she was in great emotional distress after pleading with her father that she was in love with someone else.

The father insisted they must proceed with the arranged marriage, her family supported. Meaning she must end the relationship with her boyfriend and cut all communications.

According to analyst, Zagazola Makama, the emotional pressure and pain put her in great distress, pushing her to commit sui/cide on Sunday evening around 6pm.

The situation was described as deeply unfortunate and heart breaking.

A local child protection volunteer Bukar Fantami Gubio, confirmed the incident and called on human right groups, authorities to investigate the matter and try to put an end to forced marriage in the region.

Happened in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State.
