Acting Governor of Oyo State, Barrister Abdul Raheem Adebayo Lawal, on Sunday joined eminent Muslim leaders at the Investiture and Turbanning of distinguished personalities organized by the League of Imams and Alfas in Yorubaland.

Speaking at the historic  through his special Assistant on Administration Alhaji Kunle Sani at an event  held on September 21, 2025 (29th Rabi’ al-Awwal, 1447 AH), Lawal commiserated with the league over the recent passing of its General Secretary, who was also the Chief Imam of Owo, describing the loss as devastating given his active role in planning the programme.

The Acting Governor congratulated the newly decorated ambassadors of Islam, noting that their selection was based on their sterling qualities and contributions to the upliftment of Islam across Yorubaland. He praised the league, which was founded 63 years ago, for consistently serving as the mouthpiece of Imams, Alfas, Muslim kings, and nobles in the region.

Lawal reaffirmed the Oyo State government’s commitment to supporting the league, recalling Governor Seyi Makinde’s engagements with Islamic clerics during his electioneering campaigns. He stressed that the administration has continued to implement people-centered policies to improve the welfare of residents.

On a personal note, the Acting Governor highlighted his consistent support for the league, including the payment of staff salaries for over three years and the recent fulfillment of his N2.5 million pledge towards the successful hosting of the investiture.

He further urged Islamic clerics to promote unity and use social media responsibly, stressing that the platforms should be deployed to project the ideals of Islam rather than spread discord. Citing verses from the Holy Qur’an (Chapter 49:10–12), he emphasized the importance of brotherhood, reconciliation, and avoiding slander, suspicion, or backbiting among believers.

Lawal assured that both the state government and his office would continue to respect and support the league in the realization of its objectives.
