A group of prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Irepo Local Government Area, led by Hon. Lawal Monsur, popularly known as Tokyo, has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The defection was announced on Saturday at the residence of the Acting Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, who was in town for the PDP Local Government Congress.

The defectors cited Governor Seyi Makinde’s visionary leadership and the impactful contributions of his deputy, Barr. Lawal, towards the advancement of Kishi community as reasons for their decision.

They also expressed dissatisfaction with APC’s lack of internal democracy and failure to care for party members’ welfare.

According to the defectors, since Barr. Lawal’s election as Deputy Governor, there have been significant developments in the local government, including empowerment, employment, and youth inclusiveness.

They announced that they are defecting from the APC, bringing with them hundreds of supporters from various wards across the local government, to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

They pledged their support for PDP and loyalty to Barr. Lawal, vowing to work towards the party’s victory in the 2027 election.

While welcoming the new defectors, the Acting Governor emphasizing that PDP’s door is open to everyone.

He charged members to continue moving the party forward by bringing more people on board, stressing that PDP under Governor Makinde’s leadership is a united family.

Alhaji Waliu Lamidi from ward 10, Alimi Nurudeen of Ward 07, Mudashiru Musliu were among those who publicly announced their defection.
