Minister of State for Health, Dr. Isiak Salako, has admonished Nigerians, particularly the youths to always show respect and love for the country, explaining that there was no free food anywhere.
Salako who spoke through the Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Council at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, Professor Akinwumi Komolafe, said it was time that every hands are joined to lift Nigeria up for the task ahead.
The Minister who was in LAUTECH to deliver the 3rd Faculty Lecture of Food and Consumer Sciences, said “the truth is stark that our current food system encompassing production, processing, distribution, and consumption, are neither adequately nourishing our people nor sustaining our environment”.
He noted that agricultural development is an integral part of National development. It is that aspect of development that is related to agrarian reforms.
He posited that considering the contribution of Agriculture to the socio economic development of many countries, several scholars have postulated theories linking Agriculture with national development.
His lecture was titled: “Transforming Nigerian Food Systems for better health, policy, innovation and sustainability”.
Dignitaries at event included representative of the Vice Chancellor of LAUTECH, Professor Dahud Olurotimi Araromi, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Strategy and Development) of the Institution, Professor Tunde Ogunkunle, representative of the Bursar, Alhaja Khadijat Olawoore, and University Librarian, Professor Sarah Adefunke Ebijuwa.
Also in attendance was the Dean, Faculty of Food and Customer Sciences, Professor Emmanuel Adedapo Akande.
