The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, has expressed sympathy to the victims of the recent rainstorm that ravaged Igboho community in Oorelope Local Government Area.
The rainstorm, which occurred on Thursday, destroyed electrical installations, businesses, and houses, affecting scores of electric poles and nearly 500 houses.
In a statement on Monday, Barr. Lawal described the rainstorm’s impact as saddening and unfortunate, noting that it left sorrow and tears in its wake.
He commiserated with the victims and assured them of government support in providing necessary assistance.
The Deputy Governor, who attributed the frequent rainstorms and strong winds in Igboho and other parts of the world to global climate change, stressed the need for residents to plant trees around their houses to mitigate its effects.
He also advised property owners to ensure their houses are habitable through proper maintenance to protect them from avoidable hazards.
Barr. Lawal, however, expressed gratitude that no fatality was recorded and prayed that such incidents would not occur again.
